Are You A Google-Chaser?
SEO Expert = Someone who knows how to optimize and promote a website so it will do well in the search engines no matter how the search engine algorithms change.
This = Success. Better Websites. More Content. More Promotion Time. More Websites. Better and Consistant Search Engine Rankings.
Google Chaser = Someone who will re-edit their website over and over again trying to keep up with the latest Google trick, rumor, algorithm change, etc. because they saw someone write about the latest google whatever in a blog or a forum.
That = Constant need to update web pages that have already been built. No Time to add New Content. No time to promote their existing website. No time to build more websites.
I read posts and forums all over the web about the latest Google Rumor, Google Trick, Google Algorithm Change, etc. etc. I’m sure you read it as well. But why?
Google Chasers work very hard reading the latest post from their favorite SEO Guru and keep up with all of these Google Changes. There are just a few SEO Gurus that a lot of people really listen to. So when one of them reports a new Google Thingamajig, all their readers run out and change their website to try and capitalize on the new Google whatchamacallit. Since they are all doing the exact same thing, what advantage have they gained?
Seriously, Google changes technical things, but it doesn’t change its’ goals. Google’s goal is to provide the most relevant content to those who use their search engine. That was the case when they first launched their portal and is still the case today.
Then you read SEO Gurus that tell you Google ignores the keywords meta tag, Google doesn’t give much weight to the alt tags, or much weight to the H1 Tags, or to the Title Attribute, etc., etc.
Google changes what it gives weight to daily. That’s why its’ called an algorithm. Why not just do “all of the above”?
In other words, do everything that you have learned about SEO. Name your pages like keyword.html, use the title tag, meta tags, H1, H2, H3 tags, alt tags, name images keyphrase.jpg, write great, original content, add a new page at least once per month, add a blog, add an article directory, add a forum or message board, build one-way inbound links, join forums related to your topic and promote your website in your signature line, comment on blogs that are related to your topic.
The list is endless, but the bottom line is do not ignore anything just because you read somewhere that it doesn’t matter much. If you do it all, it doesn’t matter how Google changes its’ algorithm. it won’t matter that tomorrow they are giving more weight to something else because you already covered those bases too.
Build the website and do everything as it’s being built and leave it alone. That gives you more time to add to your website and promote your website or even build more websites, rather than spending all your time making changes to pages you already built just because someone said to on a blog or in a forum.
