SEO Sucks And So Do I
When I run I suck wind. Big time. I feel it in my groin, I feel it in my abs, I feel in my lungs, and I really feel it in my legs. But I know it’s better for me than sitting around all sedentary and letting the fat hang out. So too is it better to get your SEO in shape than to let it just sit and get all flabby.
So what is flabby SEO? It isn’t lean, that’s for sure. It’s SEO that is full of fluff and not very dense.
Cut the SEO Fat With Higher Keyword Density
I highly recommend that you use a keyword density tool. There are three that I recommend:
- http://www.secretpagespy.com/tools/density/index.php
Your keyword density is a good indicator how your content stands up to scrutiny when it comes to keywords and fluff. You can actually increase your keyword density by having fewer words on your website. Cut out the needless words (in other words, trim the fat) without messing with your keywords. It sucks, I know. But it must be done.
SEO Flab Runs For The Hills When You Lower Your Code-To-Text Ratio
Another way to increase your SEO fitness is to cut some of that code out. I see people with java, php, asp, flash, and code after code after code all over their website before you even get to any real content. That’s bad. It’s also a sign of a sedentary webmaster. Too much chocolate and not enough running. By an SEO treadmill and slim that fat off. Put some of that code in a folder and get it off your website and somewhere else. You’ll feel better after it stops sucking.
Three code-to-text ratio checkers I approve of are:

- http://www.rankquest.com/tools/Text-Ratio.php
Unload The Fat With A Better Load Time
One more way you can improve your SEO fitness is to increase your load time. Do you have a lot of large files on your website? A ton of videos and flash graphics? Oh man, that sucks. You may need more bandwidth. But whatever you do, you’ve got to get rid of the fat. It sucks, but so does sitting around and letting it all hang out.
Tools for checking your load time:

The next time someone says your SEO is flabby, don’t get offended. Step back and look in the mirror. It might suck to hear it, but it sucks even more to fall in the rankings because your flab just hangs out.
