SEO Service Provider.com provides SEO services to hundreds of clients. Since 1995, SEO Service Provider, Chris McElroy has been helping clients achieve success in their Internet Marketing efforts. 3 principles of success that we promote, 1. PARTICIPATE on the web. Become part of the Online Community. Network with people through forums, blogs and social networks and don't just talk about yourself. Make friends. 2. ADD VALUE to the web. Don't just add to the noise and hype that you find everywhere. Make sure the content you put on the web adds value. 3. BE HELPFUL. When you see someone asking a question, help them with an answer. Look it up if you have to. Make sure the content you create is helpful to readers. Provide services and products that actually are helpful to your customers. If you adopt those 3 principles, I guarantee you will succeed online.

SEO requires two very different components. There is the technical side where optimizers choose keywords and design webpages that are most likely to be crawled by search engines. Then there is the copywriting side where content that will be read by the user is created. For more information on how they can seamlessly work together to increase your website rank click here.

Companies looking for the cheapest service may turn to an outsourced company that mass produces ten-cent articles with randomly injected keywords. They seem to forget that their target consumers, unlike search engines, are not simply looking for those words. They want readable, relevant content. See examples from an SEO consulting blog.

Any article writing worth paying for should come from a genuine source. If the writing produced is not something you would want to read, chances are potential buyers won’t want to read it either. The true art of SEO copywriting comes from taking those strategic, technical points and turning them into something completely organic.

Bringing viewers to a website is great, but that’s only half the battle. If you are thinking of utilizing an SEO firm to increase search results, do your research beforehand.

Visit curvedmarketing.com for a no-nonsense view of SEO. Ranking can only get you so far, and good, thorough copywriters have the ability to make the viewer stay a while once those carefully chosen keywords get them in the door.

That title doesn’t do it justice. Everyone hated Microsoft for years. One of the reasons is that Microsoft will put out software according to its’ own schedule even when that software isn’t really finished. Then they add patches to try and fix the broken software they put out.

Their schedule of selling us new software and versions of software is more important to them than giving us a finished product.

For many bloggers, especially those with Internet Marketing Blogs and SEO Blogs, do the same exact thing. The need to make a blog post every single day over-rides the need to make a good quality blog post.

So we re-post other people’s blog posts, rehash old news, rewrite our own blog posts from a year ago and more to make sure we get that daily blog post done.

Has it come to a point where this is blog spam? The clutter is piling up. The noise is becoming unbearable. Certain well-known blogs can write about something early in the morning and by late afternoon the very same topic will be on thousands of blogs with very few of them actually adding any value or a unique perspective to the original post.

Where has the creativeness and the originality gone? Do we get bored with the topic and just look for what someone else wrote about and use that for today’s topic? Do we do it because it saves us time?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.

This problem comes up a lot so I thought I would make a quick blog post about it. I hire a lot of bloggers and each has their own methods of writing blog posts.

Some of them use Microsoft Word to write the post, then copy it into a wordpress blog. This can cause you some problems you may not be aware of.

On some computers, when you copy your text from word into the wordpress blog, you also copy some of the invisible formatting code that word uses.

When you paste it into your wordpress blog, it can cause the blog post to look strange compared to your other blog posts and can even mess up the whole template you are using.

If you like writing your posts in word first, then the solution is pretty simple. Copy it from word into notepad, then into your wordpress blog. Notepad gets rid of all of the bad code and just leaves the text.

Hope that helps.

I’m not really sure why they interviewed someone from Network Solutions about SEO, because they are definitely not a top choice for your search engine optimization services. However, at least they do have one person there that knows enough about SEO to give decent advice.

Content is king and people really do need to know that if they don’t already. Having a company blog helps you add content. Writing articles that inform readers will add a lot of content to your website.

SEO is motion and activity as well as content. Just adding a bunch of content all at once is not as good as adding content to your website daily so it grows at a steady pace.

A website suddenly appearing with 100,000 pages is not going to rank as well as a website that grows at a steady pace and reaches that many pages.

There was a great post at WebProNews.com with a checklist to go over as you go into the new year. Here are some of the highlights.

1. Stop Stabbing in the Dark – Keyword Intelligence

Start 2008 with some intelligent keyword analysis. Find out what your potential customers are searching for and create your keyword hit list. Don’t under estimate the value of long tail too – searchers are getting smarter and relying on longer keyword phrases to filter out irrelevant results.

I really like this tip and it can’t be repeated too often. Searchers are getting smarter and longer phrases are getting great results. You may have a list of keywords you have been targeting for a long time now, but it’s time to do new research and update your list so you can be ready to rock in 2008.

3. Search Engine Webmaster center Sign-ups

Since the search engines have been kind enough to provide site owners with free webmaster tools (i.e. Google Webmaster Center, Yahoo! Site Explorer, Live Search Webmaster portal), do yourself a favor and sign up. Verification is simple, and the indexing diagnostics and analysis should be a part of your regular monthly (or even weekly) reviews.

If you do not have time to monitor all of the stats or do not know how to analyze them, hire someone who does. We can do a monthly report for you for just $50 per month that includes all of the data you need to make smart decisions about your website and your marketing plan. >Click here to contact us regarding your monthly reporting service.

4. Liven up Your Link Building

Yes, confusion and controversy has reigned supreme in the link discussion over 2007, but one thing still remains – your links still drive your ranking. So in 2008, seek some serious link love.

Some social bookmarking can help your link love so get started if you haven’t already! This next one is my favorite tip of all time.

5. Commit to Creating Content

Top ranking is driven by fresh quality content.

Change that to fresh quality ORIGINAL content. PLR content will not help you. Software generated content will not help you. RSS feed content will not help you. Only quality original content will help.

Whether you choose to create the content on your site, or elsewhere with a link back – regularly created relevant content keeps the search engine spiders crawling your website.

A company blog in your website will help you do this. Want it done professionally? Hire a >Professional Blog Writer or Management Team.

To start with, take your keyword hit list and give all your existing content the once over. If you’ve got low keyword density (i.e. not many of your hit list keywords are in your web page text), it’s time to do some fresh copy writing.

Again, this needs to be high quality original website content. Hire a >professional website content writer to do this.

Once you’ve covered off the web page copy essentials, commit the rest of the year to creating new content on your website. Even a couple of keyword rich new pages per month will make a significant difference to smaller websites – and there’s no easier way to do this than with a blog (see: Embrace social SEO below)

I agree wholeheartedly. Social Media can no longer be ignored and adding daily content rather than twice per month will put you ahead of most of your competitors.

8. Get Social with Web 2.0 SEO

The last item on the SEO checklist for 2008 is the social web. It’s one of the greatest tools for SEO and as it generally costs no more than a bit of your time on regular basis – it is a must if you’re serious about your rankings. There’s a lot of social media to get lost in, so to focus your initial strategies, get started with the following:

1. Set-up your own blog: It’s a simple way to create new keyword rich and relevant content for your website and relatively simple to integrate.

2. Social bookmark all your content: many social bookmark services (i.e. del.icio.us) get crawled by the search engines and will provide some useful links back to your site.

3. Engage in the Industry Conversations: Make it a weekly ritual to visit your favorite industry blogs. Then on a regular basis actually contribute to the conversations by adding relevant useful comments. Engaging commenting not only builds your profile, but can also provide valuable links back to your website.

It’s called getting involved and embracing the web. In an offline business people attend tradeshows, attend meetings with their local chamber of commerce, and do other things that get them well-known in their community.

The web is no different. Get involved. Make friends. Attend Webinars. Join Forums. Join Social Networking Sites. Get involved in conversations on blogs. Be part of the Internet if you want to do well there.

Good question. I found this interesting discussion on this topic at Forrester.com.

The first thing I’ll say about this subject is that there is no definitive way to measure ROI for a blog. After all, what are the expenses?

Domain name = worst case scenario, $20 per month (realistically, $10/month or less)

Software = Using WordPress or a similar solution – uh, free (unless you pay $150 for set up)

Monthly blogging service = Do it yourself for free or pay $200 on the low end or $5,000 on the high end for a full-time blogger

These are the bare essentials. You could hire a designer to put together a sleek design for you and pay anywhere from $100 to several thousand dollars. It’s up to you. We’re minimalists and recommend spending as little as possible. After all, there is also a time commitment. How much is your time worth?

OK, so what are the benefit? They are legion:

Increased search engine presence

Customer feedback

Link popularity and PageRank

Targeted traffic to your website

Increased sales volume

I like what the team at Forrester had to say about establishing your blog’s purpose. I’ve said all along that this is the first thing you should do when you start a company blog. Answer the question, “What is its purpose?” That’s the first step, which will also give you clues as to how you should measure ROI. One example from Forrester goes like this:

FastLane has about 100 people commenting on the blog each month, which is equivalent to gaining customer insight on products and brands from a traditional focus group. We estimated that the value of this was equivalent to running a focus group every month at the cost of $15,000 a month, or $180,000 a year. Voila – there’s the value of the blogging benefit laid out in black and white.

If you’ve conducted a focus group then you know it’s not cheap. If you can get valuable feedback from customers that will save you from having to conduct a focus group then you can save thousands of dollars. You can also measure your traffic. What would it cost you in PPC to drive targeted traffic to your website? If a blog can deliver the same amount of traffic for less money then you can easily measure the ROI. The same goes for banner advertising, off line or print advertising, or any other business outlays.

Bottom line: There’s no definitive way to measure ROI for a blog, but there isn’t any definitive way to measure ROI for many traditional marketing expenses either (how about that TV ad that ran on 50 stations last month?). Much of what is done in marketing is done to create top-of-mind awareness. How much is that worth? No one can answer it but you. But I know this – some of our blog customers have stopped posting to their blogs for a period of time only to return when their search engine rankings dropped. Such a drop also means a drop in traffic and a commensurate drop in sales. Do you really need a hard dollar figure?

When talking about SEO, there are many ways you can break it down into categories. This vs. that. Good vs. bad. Black hat/white hat. Etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

But really, all SEO boils down to two things – the content on your website and everything else.

On-Page SEO

Let’s talk a minute about the content on your website. First, search engines don’t index websites. They index web pages. That’s an important distinction because you must view each web page as a separate entity with the search engines. The elements of your on-page SEO include:

Text content

Photos and images

Videos

Podcasts

Headlines and subheadlines

Meta tags

Other tags

Code to content ratio

Design, navigation, and infrastructure issues

The primary thing to consider with your on-page content elements is that they all need to work together. Not necessarily for SEO purposes, but for design purposes as well. You really need to think about how you want your web pages to look (will you use a template, design every page with a unique look, etc.) and how you want the pages to connect as well. You have to make navigation through your site easy for your visitors so that they can find what they are looking for when they get to your website. You can do that and keep you on-page website elements SEOd for maximum benefit.

On-page SEO, especially when it relates to your content, is about two things (keywords and linnks). How you manage these two elements means a lot. But these are not by any means your only considerations. It is important to also make your on-page SEO elements work with your off-page SEO elements.

Off-Page SEO

While on-page SEO is about links and keywords, with some design and navigation considerations as well, off-page SEO is a little simpler. You really want to focus on links. Keywords are important only to the degree that they are used to link back to your website. In a word, inbound links is the name of the game.

When building links, there are various strategies and they all have their place. I highly recommend making a list of important keywords. To start, pick 10 of your most valuable keywords or keyword phrases (don’t pick the same ones or ones that are too related) and make them your anchor text phrases. Anchor text is simply the name for keyword text links.

Let’s say you are a basket weaver. You don’t want all of your anchor text links to have the word basket in them. Come up with some useful synonyms. Start with 10. You can expand your list later. But think up 10 keyword phrases that are different and unique enough that they would appeal to different segments of your target market, but that are related to your topic enough that they will prove to be of value. Next, start your link building campaign, which should consist of the following strategies:

Article marketing

Offsite business blog

Forum posting

Directory submissions

Website memberships

Blog commenting

Social networking

You don’t want all of your anchor text to use the same phrases. That’s why you come up with 10 keyword phrases that you’ll use in all of your online activities. Whenever you post in a forum or make a comment on a blog, for instance, you’ll use your anchor text. In all of your membership profiles at social networking sites, directories, etc. you’ll use your anchor text. After you’ve built a sufficient number of anchor text links this way then you can add more phrases to your list.

Ongoing Changes To SEO

Always stay on top of the changes being made at the search engines because SEO is not an exact science. The guidelines frequently change and one strategy that works well today may not work so well tomorrow. Of course, no matter how much the strategies change, SEO will always be primarily about keywords and links. How you manage these two aspects of on-page and off-page SEO determines a lot in how successful you are in the long run.

Business letters. You sign them to, right? So why not sign your blog posts?

Every good blog should have a signature line, two or three lines at the bottom of the blog post that tells readers who you are, what your mission is, and provides a link where they can get more information.

Here are 10 reasons why you should sign your blog posts:

It makes your blog more personal

Looks professional

You can drive traffic to specific web pages on your website related to each blog post

Builds link popularity into every blog post

Your readers know who’s talking to them

You automatically become a credible source of information

You can promote more than one blog or website through each blog post

Brands your business and your blog

Treats all of your readers with respect since they don’t know who is talking to them unless you tell them

It becomes YOUR message so you take responsibility for what you say

And the bonus: Consistency

End Each Blog Post With A Bang

When you sign your blog posts you are essentially saying to the world, “I am talking to you. Are you listening?”

I can hear Joan Rivers shouting at me, “Can we talk?”

Remember that? That was her “signature” line. When you heard her nasal whine you knew it was Joan Rivers. Irritating as it may be, or entertaining, the world knows who’s talking to them. And you get to close the way YOU want to close, not with some abrupt phrase at the end of your post.

A Consistent Signature Line Brands Your Business And Makes People Talk

Branding. That’s what it’s all about. Online, off line, toe the line … whatever your line, you need it to be your signature. It’s your message to the world. Tell them who’s sending it.

Take a look at the CD and DVD Publisher blog signature line:

DVD and CD Printers and Supplies
CD Presentations To Boost Your Carreer
DVD and CD Publisher Blog

This is one area where the writer of this blog really got it right. Notice the three lines, all of them links. The first link points to the company’s home page. It also contains some of the primary keywords in the text of the link itself (DVD and CD Printers). Good job!

The second link also contains a keyword, but a different keyword than what was used in the first link. That link points to an internal page of the company’s website. Once again, good job! That’s how you build deep links.

The third link, another keyword-rich phrase, links back to the blog’s home page. Nice touch. Always encourage your readers to read more blog posts. By pointing to the blog home page you give your readers easy access to more of your great blog posts and encourage them to stay on your site longer.

Attributes Of A Good Blog Post Signature Line

<img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1145/1138602780_f8768dd9af_m.jpg" alt="freelance folder old man signature" / align="right">Now that you know why you need a signature line at the end of your blog posts, let’s talk about what makes a good signature line. First, it needs to tell your readers who is talking to them. If your blog is a multi-author blog then your signature line should have your name or nickname in it. I participate in a multi-author blog at Freelance Folder under the pseudonym The Old Man.

If you are the sole author on your blog it might be a good idea to include your name anyway, or your company name, or even your initials. Whatever you use, it needs to say “This is me, my personality, my style” and keep it consistent. Don’t change it every day because you’ll confuse your readers. Settle on one thing that brands you and stick with it.

Something else you can add to your signature line is a tag line. A tag line is a branding item that allows you set yourself apart from your competition. It can be your mission statement, USP (Unique Selling Proposition), or a statement that tells your readers why you do what you do. This, too, needs to be consistent from blog post to blog post. Again, if you change it every day then your readers will get confused.

Perhaps one of the most important elements of your signature line is the link. I recommend having at least one link in your signature line. But you can have more. I wouldn’t have more than three, but you might occasionally slip in four links. Too many and it will kill your purpose for having the links in the first place. But what should those links promote. It really depends, but here are some ideas:

Your company’s home page

An internal page of your company’s website related to the topic of your blog post

The home page of your blog

Another blog post related to the same topic

Other websites you own

Partner or affiliate websites

Website of a product or service you recommend

Blogs related to yours that you like to read

Your company forum or bulletin board

Special downloads page where your readers can get a viral video, special report, podcast, or

other viral marketing collateral

Anything you want to promote or profit from

<img src="http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1335/1138425434_7352da1473_m.jpg" alt="Las Vegas AdSense blog" / align="left">What links you put into your signature line will differ depending on the nature and purpose of your blog. You may have a blog that doesn’t have signature links at all because they would take away from the main purpose of the blog. For instance, if your blog exists to attract traffic on a specific topic where you hope to profit from clicks on AdSense ads (like this Las Vegas Blog) then you probably don’t want signature links because they would only serve as exits for your traffic that you want to profit from in a specific way.

If your blog serves as way for you to attract traffic for specific affiliate programs that you want to profit from then you should include a signature link at the bottom of each post that contains your affiliate tracking code for that affiliate program so that you can get credit for sales made from the traffic you send to that company’s website. Otherwise, if you are a service company and you simply want to drive traffic back to your company’s website then you should include links that drive people to your company’s website so that you can profit from that traffic.

First, determine the purpose of your blog. After you’ve done that you can determine what you want to promote through the blog. It becomes much easier to determine what your signature links should be when your blog has a clearly defined purpose.

Signature Links Should Follow The Normal Rules For Good Linking Strategies

The final consideration for your signature links should be how to do them. You know you need them and you’ve decided what they should be. Now it’s time to do it the right way. All of your signature links should contain the following attributes:

Keyword-rich anchor text

Point to a page related to the keyword you are using

Promise a benefit or an answer to a question

Encourage the click-through

Contain a keyword-rich title attribute within the link code (example: title=”keyword description of link”)

Stand out

Build trust and credibility for your company

Promote related web pages, websites, and services related to each specific blog post

Establish your brand

Open in a new browser window (especially if you are sending people off of your website, even if you are promoting affiliate programs and such – after all, you want to keep them around, right?)

So there you have it. That’s the low-down on signature lines. You need them and they should help you promote yourself, your company, your blog, your business, and your affiliates without driving customers away. Done right, you’ll keep your readers around longer and encourage them to do business with you.
