There are more and more websites popping up that sell SEO services. They know people will pay to get help with their website. They do not necessarily know anything about SEO, but they want to sell it anyway.
That works for a lot of products on the web. I can sell bicycle parts and know nothing about bicycles. I can sell cars and know nothing about cars. But can you sell SEO without knowing anything about SEO?
Sure! Sales are made everyday this way. The problem lies in the fact that these people will not help their clients get better rankings in the search engines. The client will waste their money. Then all SEO companies are harmed because that customer will have a hard time trusting anyone else.
Just the other day, I had a call from someone who sells web design and SEO services. They wanted me to take over a client for them because the client was upset with them after spending a few thousand dollars and still not seeing any benefit. Imagine that. A client upset because you took their money and did nothing to help them.
I asked more questions. They admitted they also do not really do web design either. They sell the job, then they go look for someone to do the job for them, likely outsourcing it to India or Bulgaria or somewhere so they can keep the bulk of the money.
I asked to see the contract with the client they wanted me to take off their hands so I could see exactly what was promised and for how much money. Not surprisingly, that is where things fell apart. They made a bunch of excuses because they did not want me to see what they promised or what was paid.
Just a piece of advice. Ask the SEO person or company you want to hire if they do the SEO themselves or if they are just outsourcing it to someone else.
All outsourcing is not bad. All resllers are not bad. If they have an arrangement with someone who really does handle the SEO services they sell who really does know what they are doing, there is nothing wrong with that. But you need to be sure whoever is making you the promises knows what they are talking about.
Do enough research to learn a little about SEO so you can ask the right questions. If you do not understand SEO at all, they can tell you anything.
