CNET Widgets

It seems everyone has a widget now. Maybe widgets are Web 10.0.

Guess who’s got a widget now
By Michael Estrin

CNET Networks, the parent company of CNET.com, MP3.com, TV.com, GameSpot and other websites, has launched a slew of widgets aimed at peppering the internet with its brand of ad-supported content.

Honestly, I’m not adding other people’s widgets to my blogs or websites. Why would I? I can create my own widgets at Spring Widgets and add the rss feeds I want to add.

If I want them to be monetized I can just create my feeds through feedburner, monetize them through there, then build widgets with my feedburner feeds.

Then I can be like CNET and offer people my own monetized widgets to put on their blogs and websites.

So you would rather help cnet make money with their widget than make money with your own? Wow, can I put mine on your websites and blogs too? Will you go ahead and start using my affiliate code for my affiliates on your sites rather than using your own too?

Hey, you would be a big help to me and I appreciate your willingness to make other people money rather than make any yourself. Just doesn’t seem like a ral good business plan for anyone who wants to actually make income of their own.

No sour grapes. I wish them the best. I hope people keep using widgets that make other people money so I can get mine picked up too. There is room for everyone in every market.
