I rarely disagree with Chris publicly, but social media sites are a lot like the off line equivalent of social clubs. One man likes the Elks and another prefers the local VFW. Barring membership requirements, each is valid for just about anyone who is willing to hang out. I may fit in perfectly well with the Baptists and someone else may feel more comfortable with the Methodists. I think social networking and bookmarking sites are much like that.

But when it comes to business marketing, where you fit in may be one of the least important considerations. What is more important is where your target market hangs out. Are they a Facebook crowd or a MySpace crowd? Are they more likely to network through Propeller, Digg, or StumbleUpon? It helps to know your market and I'd suggest you hang out at the same corner and spark up a conversation with them there.

Is Propeller the "best?" Yes, for some of you. For others, you might fit in better with Mister Wong or Reddit. Either way, let the old rock and roll band Creedence Clearwater Revival be your guide:

Down on the corner
Out in the street
Willy and Poorboys are playing
Bring a nickel, tap your feet
