Famous SEO guru Aaron Wall recently posted a great critical piece on the state of the SEO industry. It included some criticisms of Google and Matt Cutts. Matt Cutts fired back with an I’d-like-to-take-a-punch-at-Aaron-but-I’ll-let-you-decide post. The next thing you know, Old Jed’s a millionaire.
No, really. Aaron caved, so they kissed and made up.
I’m not sure what they talked about, but I can imagine it going something like this:
Matt: Hi, Aaron, this is Matt Cutts.
Aaron: Hi, Matt. I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to hurt your pwetty wittle feelings.
Matt: That’s OK. I just wanted to say that I don’t own Google, you know.
Aaron: Oh, Matt, I know that. But you guys stepped on my weenie.
Matt: Aaron, look, we’re friends, right? I tried my hardest not to step on your little - I mean, your, uhm, privates - but, heck, when you work for a 900-pound gorilla, things go crunch. You kind of have to follow the gorilla feet or be a victim yourself. You know?
Aaron: Yeah, that makes sense, in a Google kind of way.
Matt: Yeah, so I just wanted you to know, that PageRank thing, it wasn’t my idea. Heck, if it were me, you could sell all the links you want. You could party like it’s 1999. I’d even let you date my girlfriend and drive my car (fingers crossed).
Aaron: You’re girlfriend? Really? Hmmmm … you’re a swell guy, Matt.
Matt: I know.
Aaron: OK, I forgive you. But I’m not changing my opinion.
Matt: And I’m not asking you to. Just, please, don’t include me in all that hate talk about Google. I’m not Google. I’m just one guy. A cog in the wheel, a ghost in the machine. You know, the man behind the curtain thing, only the curtain kind of has a mind of its own in this case.
Aaron: Alright, fine. No hard feelings then?
Matt: Not if you don’t write about me any more. Otherwise, I’ll have to run another poll.
Aaron: Deal.
It just goes to show, the SEO industry is no more perfect than any other industry. People are still people and say what you will about Google - they have a right to set the rules for the way they index websites. You can agree or disagree, but at the end of the day, poll or no poll, Matt Cutts aside (sorry Matt), you either play the game by Google’s rules or sit in the pasture with the cows. I guess Aaron Wall doesn’t like cows.
Note: Portions of this blog post are satirical. If I stepped on anyone’s little weenie, it was purely unintentional and I’m not one bit sorry.

Good point Chris… Not that I had read that actual post of either person but I certainly did have something to say about the recent PageRank changes.
