Just Good SEO - No Hype
SEO Myths and Facts - SEO on a Budget
Filed under: SEO Myths and Facts

There are some large corporations with large budgets out there on the web doing SEO. They are spending thousands of dollars every month to promote their websites.

They are doing article marketing, blogging, onsite seo, directory and paid listings, ppc, shopping comparison site listings, advertising and more to get more visitors to their website.

So what chance does the little guy have with a small budget? Should you just give in and say you can’t beat them? Not a chance!

One of the coolest things about the Internet is that it severely levels the playing field for the small business owner vs the large corporations. The small business owner even has some advantages over the big corporations as far as seo is concerned. I bet you are surprised to hear that.

What advantage does the small business person have over large corporations when it comes to SEO?

1. Large corporations move slow. The larger they get, the slower they get. If you have ever had to wait for a check to get cut and sent to you from a big corporation, you can testify to their slowness. The bureaucracy they put into everything makes the decisionmaking slower. Everyone has to look out for their cushy job, so they have to get approvals for everything they do.

This means that IF you properly monitor what is going on around the Internet, you can react to market changes quicker than they can. You can use Google alerts on a bunch of topics, subscribe to industry newsletters, subscribe to seo, ppc, email marketing, and Internet Marketing newsletters, and more to keep on top of what is new both in your industry and on the web in general.

2. Corporations like to hire college graduates right out of college to fill their web marketing departments. Now, understand, I’m not knocking going to college, but the fact is they do not teach Internet Marketing and SEO in colleges. My search for interns confirmed this. They hire graduates who took web design or marketing. They also hire people who are experienced in offline or traditional marketing. Internet Marketing is a different animal than traditional offline marketing.

This means you can study everything there is to know about seo and Internet Marketing online and excel beyond the people they hire. Most Internet Marketing and SEO Gurus are self-taught. They had to be.

Either learn it yourself or hire someone who is willing to work with small seo budgets and either way, you can beat the big corporations with a small seo budget. But it takes work. There is no free lunch if you are a small business owner tryiong to make income from the web.

Those are the advantages. Elbow grease and a willingness to learn more about SEO will increase the results you get from your smaller seo budget.
